How is your FCBD event? Our Free Comic Book Day event gets bigger and better every year. We always have the Batmobile from the first movie along with the local Star Wars 501st. Last year we had a Batman and Catwoman, and Pepsi came and gave out free soda all day. Financially, it was the biggest day in the store’s history.

What did you like about the Retailer Summit? I always like comparing notes with fellow retailers. I’ve made many lifelong friends at these things, and it’s always good to stay informed with everybody’s future publishing plans.

What aspect of your store makes you most proud? We have the best selection of graphic novels in the state and our employees are incredible.

What do you do that is innovative within your store? Recently we purchased fixtures from Borders and have revamped our whole store. With better organization, I’ve finally been able to add a section for award winners, another one for media tie-ins, and another for employee picks of graphic novels. I am going to highlight different creators soon too, which is something I have been wanting to do for years.

What has been your best in-store promotion? Our best in-store promotion every year is always Free Comic Book Day. It’s always my favorite day of the year. It’s fun to give back to the community, see the joy on the kids faces, and make a lot of money at the same time.

What has been your best out-of-store or cross-promotion? I’ve been involved with the convention scene here forever, and currently am involved with a group – Pop Culture Classroom (formerly known as Comic Book Classroom), that is getting kids in middle schools writing and reading comics. In the last year or so, that’s been taking more and more time, but is incredibly rewarding. I also supply the college bookstore with graphic novels and do outreach in the local schools to make sure they have comics in their libraries. Visit them at: https://popcultureclassroom.org

What recent changes have you made in the store? Adding new bookcases from Borders was the most recent improvement. I’ve been mixing and matching fixtures for years, but now everything looks much more professional.

What are your plans for the near future? The thing I love about my store is that it is constantly changing and evolving. I’m never satisfied, I know it can get better. The Pop Culture Classroom is building and I’m involved in the Denver Pop Culture Con,which is usually held in June or July.

How did you choose your store name? Back in the day, we carried sci-fi and fantasy books too. I also used to play a pinball machine at Colorado University called Time Warp and right around that time an obscure movie called The Rocky Horror Picture Show had a catchy tune by the same name. Everything just all came together at the same time, and thus, Time Warp popped in my head and I knew instantly that is was the perfect name. Our dinosaur riding a spaceship logo says it all. We’re where the past meets the future.

Customer Testimonials about Time Warp Comics

“As a member of The Denver Post‘s entertainment staff for 26 years, the paper’s occasional coverage of the comics world fell to me.  In the course of my reporting, a simple fact was revealed time and time again – Time Warp, under the aegis of owner Wayne Winsett, is one of Colorado’s cultural jewels and the finest comic store in the Rocky Mountain region.  It remains a success on every level, a headquarters for mind-boggling inventory and top-notch customer relations.” –G Brown

“Wayne Winsett and Time Warp have seen me through a lot of days where only the aspect of enjoying a good comic book and being made young again in my spirit was the sole light shone.  On the other side of that scale, Sunny Summer days on the Front Range of Colorado are made all the more spectacular with a pitcher of iced tea, a window fan and the adventures that only excellent comics can provide.  Thank you Wayne and all the Staff of Time Warp, past and present, for some 30+ years of reading and collecting enjoyment.  You guys deserve the Eisner if only for making folk like me more ‘real’ the moment we walk through the door of the shop.” – Painless Black Wolf

“I love Time Warp for many reasons, but chief among them is the friendly and kind staff. As a female comic reader I have always felt welcome into the comic community at Time Warp. My questions are answered with a genuine consideration that is never wavering. All creeds and colors can guarantee they will find helpful employees. This is, without a doubt, the first store I would take somebody  who is new to comics. The rockin’ music they always play helps too!” – Sable Cofrin

“Time Warp is the best comic book store in Colorado because of their courteous and knowledgeable staff. We always feel welcome and have a great time when we go.” – Cathy Osborn

“Time Warp is the best comic book store in Colorado. I have been to others, but none can top Time Warp’s breath and depth of comics and, more importantly, the enthusiasm for comics shared by employees to us customers. Time Warp is the only retail business, comics or otherwise, where I know nearly all of the employees names and they know mine; it’s a comic book shop that creates community.” – Gregory Payne

“I have been a customer of Time Warp for over 10 years and 2 different stores. The people are fun to visit with and the service is excellent. All I need to do is walk in the door and they get my comics. They recognize me and remember my box number!” – Rob Stubblefield

    1. A birthday party would depend on the date, time, and amount of kids expected. Feel free to email us with any further questions you might have. Thank you for your time.
