Wayne’s Word #9

Wayne’s Word

I was informed that I haven’t posted any blogs since May. Been a busy summer though, and thus no newsletter. September is an important month for us however, so it’s time to let you all know what is new here at Time Warp.

September is our anniversary month (September 29th is the big day), so we’re going to have our annual sale. We want to start the sale on Saturday, September 22nd. This part of the sale will be for file holders only. The regular back issues will be 50% OFF for file holders, and 15% OFF for the silver and bronze age comics. I really want to thank all our file holders, you guys are the backbone of our business and I really want you to know how much I appreciate your patronage. The sale will start for the general public on September 29th and will be 20% OFF back issues and 10% OFF silver and bronze age books. On October 5th, the sale increases to 25% OFF, October 12th to October 19th the sale will increase to 30%OFF, and then on October 20th, which is 24 Hour Comic Book Day, we will have a day long sale with virtually everything in the store on sale. We do hourly specials, so you will want to monitor our website to see what wild and crazy stuff we have planned. Of course we will have a dozen or so awesome artists here designing a comic to be collected later in a book. Currently, we have the last two years 24 hour comic book day books on sale at the store. In the meantime, we’re designing other kinds of specials to celebrate. We’re so excited about Before Watchmen, we want everyone to experience it, so we’re putting all the number ones on sale for only $1.00 each. They’re regularly $3.99 each, so that’s a huge savings. Also, to celebrate Spidey’s 50th anniversary, we’re going to be selling all five specials for only $1.00 each. Look for all those specials this month. If we think of anything else cool, we’ll put it on the website.

This Saturday, September 22nd, All C’s in Aurora is having another benefit for the shooting victims. Their special guest will be J. Scott Campbell, and they also have a silent auction. I didn’t post anything on a newsletter about that shooting, but we were all shocked and appalled over those terrible events, and we’re saddened it diminished the great Batman franchise in any way.

The events at All C’s store are good because the proceeds go directly to the victims. No middle man who is sitting on funds. Funds go to Aurora Rises directly.

I have not given you a Top Titles for June – September, but highlights have included DC’s New 52 # 0’s , which started coming out last week and trade paperbacks for Manhattan Projects and Prophet from Image Comics, both of which have become instant best sellers here at the store.

The biggest news comes from Marvel with their Marvel Now initiative, which starts in October with Uncanny Avengers #1 by Bendis and Cassaday. Marvel is answering the challenge that DC started last year. Marvel’s new #1 titles with new creative teams on all actually look like they are going to be well worth checking out.

Time Warp Comics also has plans for Halloween this year as it falls on a New Comic Book Wednesday, Stay tuned as we will have something up on our website about it.

As you can see below, November has a ton of great items to buy. If I put my money where my mouth is here, there won’t be any money left for anything else in the budget. SO… If you see anything you want here or in the Diamond Previews magazine, please let me know. We need your help!

Wayne’s Word #8

Wayne’s Word #8

I didn’t know what I was getting myself into when I started to write this month’s newsletter. Most times it is a struggle to come up with 15 or 20 new things out of Previews magazine to recommend. This month, for titles coming out in May, I could have had 50 without even breaking a sweat. As it is, I came up with 35 titles here that I can’t wait to sell. Usually, May is one of our slowest months , and I cut my orders way back, because a lot of you are CU students, who leave for the summer. Not this year, the publishers all have something good coming out.
There is so much happening right now, it’s impossible to inform you of everything here, but I’ll try.
Next week , Avengers vs. X-Men # 1 comes out, sure to be a monster hit ! Marvel would like us to have a party, so we are. It starts when we close next Tuesday night. That’s right, the street date on that is Tuesday evening, instead of Wednesday. That’s the only new comic we can sell that night, but to help entice you, back issues of Avengers and X-men in the regular back issues will be half off Overstreet. Trades and silver or bronze comics will all 25 % off. Maybe we’ll even have cake. And don’t miss Avengers vs. X-Men # 0, this week.
Next month Comicfest and Starfest roll into Denver. We’re already selling tickets here. I’m looking forward to seeing John Noble of Fringe fame, and John Layman and Bob Guillory of Chew fame. Complete details here at the store.
Of course May brings us the Avengers movie and my favorite day of the year Free Comic Book Day. If you’re one of the artists who regularly attend, let us know ASAP, so we can list you on our press releases.
June is Denver Comic Con ! You’ve all heard about this by now, I’m sure. More guests are being announced every week, but we need your help ! PRE- REGISTRATION for the show is going slow. Too Slow ! I know for sure this show will sell out before it gets here, just like San Diego Comic Con. It is a fact that everyone, including or especially locals procrastinate, thinking they will get tickets that month or when they get there. Please don’t make that mistake. Buy your tickets right now!  If you wait, there’s an excellent chance you won’t get in. I’m trying to give all my customers a head’s up. Time Warp customers receive a 20% discount on tickets by entering the code Timewarp2012 when purchasing online tickets to Denver Comic Con. Please support this con, so we can do one every year and make them bigger and better every year.

Top titles for May 2012
(In no particular order except from Previews front to back)

The Guild: Fawkes one shot  Co -written by Wil Wheaton, one of the guests at the upcoming Denver Comic Con in June. The Guild series by Felicia Day sells pretty well, but I think this one will do well in June. Not sure what Wheaton will be signing at the con, but this could be a choice.

Dark Horse Presents #12  This issue has a lot going for it. Starting with an Aliens cover and story by John Layman of Chew fame with art by Sam Keith. In addition, a new Nexus installment by Denver Comic Con guest Mike Baron and drawn by Steve Rude in their first collaboration in years. Speaking of Layman, he will be a guest at next month’s Comicfest in Denver !

Mind Mmnt # 1  Written and drawn by Matt Kindt , another guest at Denver Comic Con. Kindt has two great comics already to him name – Super Spy and 3 Story. This sounds really good too. People can rewrite reality.

Skeleton Key Color Special  A great all ages title written and drawn by Andi Watson
Creepy Presents Richard Corben HC $29.99  One of my favorite artists of all time . This compilation collects great work from Creepy and Eerie magazines. This is one of those collections that should be on every serious comic collectors bookcase.
Earth Two #1  The first of six new DC # 1’s this month to replace the six that were just cancelled. I really believe these new titles are all much better than the ones cancelled. This first one returns Earth 2 to the current DC continuity. JSA members Alan Scott, Jay Garrick and others join Superman , Batman and Wonder Woman in this new world. Written by James Robinson and drawn by Nicola Scott.

World’s Finest # 1 Instead of Superman/Batman, the new World’s Finest features Power Girl/Huntress. These two refugees from Earth 2 are stuck on our Earth. Paul Levitz is the writer and George Perez with Kevin Maguire are the artists.

Batman Incorporated # 1 This takes place shortly after the last series ended, and is still by the great team of Grant Morrison and Chris Burnham. This continues the Leviathan storyline.

Dial H # 1 This one is written by China Mieville, a Hugo winning novelist. The dial turns you into a super hero. At the recent ComicsPRO meeting I attended, DC’s Vertigo editor said she thought this was going to be a great series, and she’s never steered me wrong.

G.I.Combat # 1 The War That Time Forgot starts anew. When I was a kid I loved the old Star Spangled comics that featured soldiers and dinosaurs. J.T. Krul is the writer and Ariel Olivetti is the artist. A second story features The Unknown Soldier.
The Ravagers # 1 This series spins out of Superboy , Legion Lost and Teen Titans. It’s part of a storyline called “The Culling “ Fairchild, Beast Boy, Terra and Rose Wilson are part of the team. Art will be by Ian Churchill.

Batman # 9 Part of the huge storyline “Night Of The Owls “ Every book in the “Batman Family” of titles this month will tie in to this, including the Annual.10 titles in all. Even All Star Western is a tie-in. Excluded are Detective and Batwoman. Batman by Snyder and Capullo is my favorite comic being published right now.

Animal Man Annual #1 Animal Man and Swamp Thing explore the struggle between the Rot and the Red and the Green.

Teen Titans Annual # 1   This is where the Culling storyline starts !

Batman :Earth One H.C. $ 22.99  Remember last year when Superman :Earth One sold out the week it came out ? I expect this to do the same. Geoff Johns and Gary Frank are the creative team. These two creators are some of my favorites in comics, and curiously, not one person signed up for this. Not even Eric Taylor.

Smallville Season 11 # 1  This is for all of us fans that were disappointed by the last television episode. Based on the WB show.

Superman Family Adventures # 1  Now that Tiny Titans is coming to an end, the same creative team of Baltazar and Franco return to DC for this all ages comic. This looks fun.

Mystery In Space #1 one shot $ 7.99 Anthology by DC / Vertigo with art by Mike Allred and others. Allred will also be at Denver Comic Con with his awesome wife Laura.

Star Trek : TNG / Doctor Who- Assimilation 2 # 1 The title says it all ! This will also blow out of here, I’m sure .The artwork will be painted.

Frankenstein Alive, Alive # 1  Bernie Wrightson returns to his roots with this incredible sequel to his incredible Illustrated adaptation of the Mary Shelley classic. This will be great. Black and White, story by Steve Niles !

Trio # 1 John Byrne’s new superhero title. They’re simply called One, Two, Three – But they’re really Rock, Paper, Scissors.

David Mazzucchelli’s Daredevil: Born Again – Artist’s Edition $150.00 I can’t believe how popular these have been. Shocking to me that even in this recovering economy, expensive books like this are still hot. I can’t order enough of these artist’s editions. Written by Frank Miller.

Joe Hill’s The Cape H.C. $24.99 My favorite mini-series of the year. Art by Zach Howard, and you guessed it -He will be at Denver Comic Con too !

Godzilla Ongoing # 1 More of the same, except every month !

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Color Classics # 1 The original is back, and in color for the first time. Very exciting !

Mind The Gap # 1 New Image creation with art by Rodin Esquejo . He is best known as the cover artist on Morning Glories. How can a woman in a coma help catch her assailant ?

Dancer # 1 Another new Image title. This is written by Nick Edmondson and drawn by the artist of Viking – Nic Klein. This is a spy thriller.

Wolverine & The X- Men # 10 and # 11 This has been one of Marvel’s best titles lately. I mention it specifically this month, because you guessed it – Writer Jason Aaron will be at Denver Comic Con . Nuff Said !

Incredible Hulk # 7.1 and # 8. Same as above, Jason Aaron writes about a Hulk, who has to stay angry, now that Bruce Banner is dead .

Exiled # 1 and New Mutants #42, 43 and Journey Into Mystery #637, 638. All parts of a 5 part crossover .

Fury Max # 1 and # 2  Garth Ennis returns to write Fury, who needs a new job after World War 2 ends.

Garfield # 1 – Hey kids, look ! Lasagna !

Barry Sonnenfeld’s Dinosaurs vs. Aliens H.C. $19.99 Grant Morrison is writing this, and the painted artwork by Mukesh Singh looks unbelievable.

Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide vol 42  Available with two different covers- Avengers by Jusko, and Catwoman by Adam Hughes. Hardcover’s are $35.00 and soft covers are  $29.95 each. We always sell out of the limited edition hardcovers first.

X-O Manowar # 1 It’s back ! Art is by Cary Nord, and # 1has 3 variant covers. The new Valiant universe begins here ! Anticipation is high ! Did you reserve your copy yet ?

Wayne’s Word #7 Marching Forth

Wayne’s Word;

As usual, I’m late again. Just call me Joe Procrastinator. All the titles listed below are already ordered, but if any of them sound good to you, please let us know and we’ll be happy to add it to your pull box.
I call our system “Hold Slots”, but Valiant Comics is back, and they are offering a special “Pull Box“, variant issue for next month (May),so look for that info in next month’s, sure to be late, Wayne’s Word.
Last month, I went to Dallas, for my annual ComicsPRO meeting. The highlight is always DC Comics presentations, but I also learn a lot from all the other publishers and my retailer friends.
The 2 things everyone is the most excited about is the Avengers movie, followed the next day by Free Comic Book Day (May 5th). In fact that whole week looks like it will be great, as DC’s first of the New 52 Hardcovers start arriving May 2nd; along with their 6 new titles. Earth 2, World’s Finest, Batman Incorporated, Dial H, G.I. Combat, and The Ravagers all sound promising. Dial H might be the sleeper hit of the batch, DC hinted. In other DC news, Ravagers, drawn by Ian Churchill sounds like another one to keep an eye on. It comes out the last week of May. Batman: Earth 2 comes out two weeks before the Batman the Dark Knight Rises movie opens. DC is adapting the Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. The three books will become six graphic novels. DC will be releasing Smallville Season 11, after it hits digital first.
Marvel stated that starting in October, they are going to be having a weekly “Event “, in their line every Wednesday for four months.
The grandest, yet weirdest news I heard was from IDW. They are going to be releasing a new Mars Attacks comic, along with multiple covers for this title. How many covers you ask? As many as there were cards in the original set! Yes, dozens. Wow!
I also want to make sure you all know that we have two conventions coming in the very near future. First up is Comicfest/Starfest April 20th through the 22nd. The Image sensation Chew, creators John Layman and Rob Guillory will be guests at that. Secondly, the Denver ComicCon is coming in June 15th through the 17th. We have so many guests lined up for that, you wouldn’t believe it. Stay tuned here and at my Face Book page- Wayne Winsett for all the exciting news!
That’s the highlights. Thanks for reading!

                         Wayne

Richard Stark’s Parker: The Score H.C; $24.99 – Darwyn Cooke’s masterpiece returns for a third graphic novel. The first two won multiple Eisner awards and are two of my all time favorite books to recommend and sell here at Time Warp. I really can’t recommend them enough. What kind of man tries to knock off a whole town? PARKER! That’s who!

Shadow # 1: Garth Ennis is going to be writing this new ongoing series. I can’t tell you how excited I am that the Shadow is returning to comics. Lamont Cranston and company have been some of my favorite characters since I was a little boy. I ordered way too many copies, hoping to convince some of you to give it a try. “Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men? The Shadow knows. “, Gotta love it.

AVX- Avengers vs. X-Men: #1 and #2 are this month. #1 is by Bendis and Romita ,Jr., and #2 is by Jason Aaron and Romita Jr. Phoenix is returning to the Marvel Universe. The X-Men think it will signal the return of the mutant species, but the Avengers are convinced it could mean the end for all mankind. This is the BIG Marvel event for the summer. In case you’re curious, we were offered by Marvel to be a Avengers store or a X-Men store in taking sides. Instead of polling our customers, I panicked and choose the Avengers. I hope this doesn’t upset any of you too much. We will also be taking part in the party prior to the release of # 1 and will be able to sell this to you the night before it officially goes on sale. We will have cool stuff to give away, and a sale that night on X-Men and Avengers merchandise. More details very soon.

America’s Got Powers: # 1-6, the biggest TV show on Earth features super powered teens fighting it out to see who is the best. Sounds like a pretty good plot by Jonathan Ross. Hopefully, the art by Bryan Hitch will be up to snuff.

Popeye #1: Hats off to IDW Publishing for bringing this back. There is definitely a need right now for comics that were classics when I was growing up,to find a new generation of readers.
Writer Roger Langridge should be the perfect choice, and from what I’ve seen, the art by newcomer Ozella looks spot on for this revival.

Secret #1: A new ongoing Image series by Jonathan Hickman, who seems to be phasing out his Marvel books so he can concentrate on more mature series from Image. I’m a big fan of Hickman’s writing and will follow him anywhere. This title sounds like it will be an interesting espionage thriller pitting the government against private security firms.

Secret Service #1: This is in Marvel’s Icon line, so it is for mature readers too. Mark Millar is writing this, and we all know by now what we can expect from him. The art however is by Dave Gibbons of Watchmen fame, and that’s what really interests me about this series. I am not sure what the exact plot is yet, but I’m pretty sure it will be interesting, given Millar’s recent track record.

Are You my Mother? A Comic Drama H.C; $22.00: Alison Bechdel won every award she could for Fun Home. This will explore the relationship between mother and daughter and the gulf in between.

Courtney Crumrin #1:  First ever color series returns for her first full color series ! I highly recommend this magical fantasy series. There are several previous volumes in black and white that precede this. Give them a shot.

Girl With The Dragon Tattoo Special #1: Just in time for Free Comic Book Day ! And best of all, it’s free! This is advance look at the upcoming Graphic novel to be published by DC / Vertigo.Want one ? If you’re a file holder, just ask, one will be put in your file . All others, first come, first served.

Fanboys vs. Zombies #1: New ongoing Boom series. I don’t know, sounds goofy to me, but zombies are in right now, and it’s only $1.00 to try it out.
Groo vs. Conan #1-4: Hard to believe nobody’s done this before considering how long both these barbarians have been published . Of course Evanier and Argones are attached to this as artist and writer. Will heroism or stupidity win out in the end?

Star Wars: Blood Ties-Bobba Fett Is Dead #1-4: One of Star Wars favorite characters gets another mini-series!

Reset # 1-4: Peter Bagge of Hate fame asks the time honored question “What if you had a second chance ? “ Virtual reality gone horribly horribly wrong…most likely.

Star Wars Omnibus  Droids vs. Ewoks TP: Alright, I was kidding, they’re not fighting. This is a cool reprint series for the kids from Marvel’s series of the 1980’s . Very hard to find sets of these, but Dark Horse has done that for us. $24.99  I still like Ewoks better than Jar Jar, but that’s not saying much!

Wayne’s Word #6

Wayne’s Word

Once again, I’m late. I have already ordered everything that I mention here, but this is all stuff I think Time Warp customers will want to be aware of. Unless otherwise noted, everything listed comes out this March.

Before I get to the Top Titles, I want to let you know that file-holders can sign up and reserve up to 5 of the Free Comic Book Day titles to have reserved in your files for you. If there are some you really, really want, let us know. We always hope you will come in on the first Saturday of May for our great yearly event, and since this year’s FCBD is the day after the Avengers movie is released in theaters, I can’t tell you how very excited we are for this year’s event. I try to top the previous year every year, so stay tuned- Same Bat Time, same Bat Channel.

Also starting this Thursday February 9th through the weekend we will be running a Star Wars special to commemorate the Phantom Menace being rereleased in 3D. All Star Wars Trades will be 25% off, and Star Wars back issues will be 50% off till February 12th

Top 15 Titles for March 2012

Fairest #1: This is a new ongoing FABLES series starring the fairer sex. The first 6 issues star Briar Rose. Willingham will be writing this arc, and Phil Jimenez will be doing the art. Fables is still my fa vorite series here at the store, so as you can imagine, I’m very excited about still another regular series.

DC’s new 52 Hardcover’s: These will all be out in May, but we already had to order them. The first four offerings from DC are Justice League, Batman, Green Lantern and Wonder Woman. They are $24.99 each, and reprint the first six issues of their respective series. I really like the new DC 52, and Batman is my favorite of the new titles. Let us know if you want us to save any of these for you.

Saga # 1: Brian K. Vaughn is back! Everybody has been wondering what the next big project would be coming from the Y, The Last Man scribe and here it is. Image Comics and artist Fiona Staples bring us this ground breaking new sci-fi /fantasy series. I really think this will be huge!

Saucer Country # 1: New DC/ Vertigo series about a female president who says she has been abducted by aliens.

Dominique Laveau: Voodoo Child # 1: Another DC/ Vertigo series, the story centers on the voodoo queen of New Orleans. Political intrigue and murder mysteries abound. New Deadwardians # 1: The third DC / Vertigo start up this month. That’s pretty unusual itself. This one features zombies and vampires, but DC says this is different. We’ll see…

Batman: Arkham Asylum Series 2 action figures: Riddler, Catwoman, Mad Hatter and Detective Mode variant Batman $ 19.99 each.Batman: Death By Design Hardcover: $ 24.99 Written by Chip Kidd, and drawn by Dave Taylor. The description in previews in kind of sketchy, so I won’t order too many. If you’re interested, please sign up.

Avengers vs. X-Men # 0 and # 1: So it begins! Marvels huge new mega event starts now. The hype has already started, but I’m still kind of excited about this one. Brain Bendis and Jason Aaron are writing this and Frank Cho is drawing it. It has to be good. Aaron will be here in Denver this June for the Denver Comic Con, so you can read this and tell him in person how much you like it, then get it signed. Very cool.

Avengers Assemble # 1: Bendis and Bagley of Ultimate Spider-Man fame are bringing the newly assembled team from the upcoming Avengers movie into regular Marvel continuity. This is certainly a novel idea. It is my opinion that Bagley is a good artist when he is doing a single character, but struggles a little as an artist on big team-up books.

Age Of Apocalypse # 1: This spin off comes out of the pages of Uncanny X- Force, which is my favorite Marvel title right now. David Lapham and Roberto De La Torre are the creative team.

Super Crooks # 1: Miller and Yu are doing another Marvel Icon series that is rated  “M” for mature. The bad guys decide the USA has too many super heroes, and decide to move out of the country to do bad things.

Manhattan Projects #1: This will be written by Jonathan Hickman, so I’m pretty sure this will be great too. I don’t have a clue how Hickman can write so many series, but he is. As usual, reading the description in Previews magazine does tell me much about how to order this. His writing is intricate and detailed, so I would not figure it out anyway. If you like his FF, Fantastic Four, Shield or the Red Wing series, I’m sure you’ll like this!

Rocketeer Adventures 2 # 1- 4: The next arc starts here. 12 all new stories by today’s top talent, Dave Stevens lives on!

Ragemoor #1: Dark Horse presents a new Richard Corben black and white miniseries. I have been a huge fan of Corben’s art since the 1960’s.

Waynes Word #5 It’s A New Year

Wayne’s Word

Welcome to 2012! First up, a big thank you to all our customers that helped Time Warp succeed in 2011. We appreciate each and every one of you. And of course the employees that work here are great and I thank them all very much. I hesitate to name names, because I’ll surely forget somebody, but Garry, Clayton, Gino and Smurf in particular all were big contributors to the cause. There were a lot of helpers behind the scenes; Kris, Kelsea, Jay, and Duane, who really put in a lot of time and extra effort with the new web site, thanks again.

The highlights for 2011 were of course Free Comic Book Day, 24 Hour Comic Day and the New DC 52 start over event. One of our biggest accomplishments this year was getting new fixtures into our store courtesy of the sad demise of Borders. Their loss was our gain, but watching them go away was a bummer.

My big objective for 2012 is to dig in and spruce up the store and restock the graphic novels that keep on selling well, over and over. It was a great year for Walking Dead, Locke and Key, Fables and many more great series. It is a full time job restocking trades, so I feel a real need to do a better job keeping track of those. The back issue comics we have continue to be a huge drain of time and energy here. I have way too many, and collections keep pouring in faster than we can process them. In the next few weeks, you’re going to see the 25 cent and dollar books sections full to the brim. There are some great books in there, so please see if you can find some deals in there to take advantage of. Related to that, is the fact I cannot afford to keep the new comic racks overstocked. I will have to buy new comics to sell out in a month and not have them for back issues. That business model just is not viable any more. We have been offering file holders first crack on getting back issues at 50 % off guide. We want to continue that for one more month, giving you first crack, but then we’re going to open that up to the general public. Not really a big fan of sales, as I feel it devalues our overall collection, but we need the room. Getting too crowded in here.

There are two big comic cons coming up, Starfest and The Denver Comic Con and I encourage you to come to both. Details will be on our website www.time-warp.com.

Thanks for reading,

Wayne

Top Twenty for February 2012

Road Rage # 1- 4   This is the first collaboration between writers Stephen King and his son Joe Hill, creator of Locke and Key. This series will pay tribute to the famous story by Richard Matheson – Duel. Art will be by Nelson Daniel, who has been helping out on the outstanding comic The Cape. Due to Stephen King’s popularity with the Dark Tower comics, I expect this to sell really well. I f we file Dark Tower, Stand or American Vampire for you already, you’ll get this series too. If you don’t want it cross filed , please let us know.

Star Wars: Dawn Of The Jedi # 1 -5 The origin of the Jedi begins here! The creative team is Ostrander and Duuresema, who were the perfect team doing Star Wars comics back in the day.

Murky World one shot– This reprints the Richard Corben stories from past issues of Dark Horse Presents.

Winter Soldier #1 and #2 in this month, this Marvel series will star Bucky Barnes and Black Widow. It will be written by the always reliable Ed Brubaker and drawn by Butch Guice. Ever since Brubaker brought Bucky back from the dead a few years ago, he’s been one of my favorite Marvel characters. I’m really looking forward to this series. Dr. Doom comes to town to ruin the party.

Twelve # 9 and # 10  One of my favorite Marvel series is back to finish the great story started years ago by Straczynski and Weston. This story of time stranded heroes from World War II was on an indefinite hiatus , and I was starting to think this series would never finish. Now if I could remember what happened in # 8. I guess I can read the trade paperback, also released in February

Fantastic Four :Season One Premiere HC $24.99 Marvel is really pushing these hardcovers, but not one single person signed up for this. Too expensive for an untested product. I’ll only order a few.

All so for the entire month of February, Marvel will be shipping two issues on most titles. That’s fantastic in helping move along in story lines.

Batwoman # 6 Finally, the debut of Colorado artist supreme – Amy Reeder ! We’ve been waiting for quite awhile to Amy’s arc to start, as J.H. Williams III has been doing a great art job so far. Amy’s style is very different than Williams, but I’m sure it will be great.

Flashpoint trade paperbacks. 6 Different trades of the series that led up to the big changes in the new DC 52. The regular trade and the  Flashpoint : Batman will be two of my favorites

Action Comics # 6 This issue guest stars the all new , all different Legion Of Super Heroes. Grant Morrison is still writing this, so you know it will be good.  DC Universe Presents # 6 Deadman is done for now, next up are the Challengers Of The Unknown.Eight survivors of a fiery plane crash live on borrowed time.

Batman Beyond Unlimited # 1 DC is reprinting this from the recent digital first, print second idea I’m not really fond of. If digital is forever with us, how about print first, then digital 14 days later. Do the publishers want comic stores to fail ? Probably not, but they are not thinking this all the way through.Batman # 6  Talon, the Court Of Owls assassin  takes out Batman. One of the best Batman stories in years and a big success for DC’s New 52.

Black Orchid dlx. hardcover edition $24.99 This has been out of print for too long. This Gaiman / McKean masterpiece is one I love to recommend to new customers. If you have never read this, do yourself a favor and try it.

Thief Of Thieves # 1 Co-written by two of the most popular writers today: Robert Kirkman and Nick Spencer. This is a story about master thief Redmond, who can steal anything and get away with it. Now he wants to go back to the life he left behind. The art by Martinbrogh looks very good. At a meeting I attended with Kirkman in San Diego this past summer, he was really pumped for this series and said it was one of his favorite projects yet.

Fatale # 2 Brubaker / Phillips series from Image in the vein of Marvel’s Criminal and Incognito. The first issue is out this week. Don’t miss it.

Infestation 2 Transformers # 1, #2 and Dungeon And Dragons # 1, #2. Ties into the Lovecraftian Infestation storyline that starts this month. Ninjettes # 1 From the pages of Jennifer Blood , a Garth Ennis production.Ultra violent over the top action.

Harvey Pekar’s Cleveland HC $ 21.99 The history of one of the most exciting cities in America as told through Pekar’s eyes. Should be a very interesting autobiography. His last work. Intro by Alan Moore.

Ralph  Wiggum Comics #1 From the pages of the Simpson’s comes the kid who can’t keep his finger out of his nose.  Adventure Time # 1up An all new kids comic I know absolutely nothing about. Getting good marketing though, and I do try to bring in new kids stuff every chance I get.

Waynes Word #4 Blackest Friday and More

Wayne’s Word

I missed doing an official email last month , so here we go with the Thanksgiving edition. The store is amping up for the holidays ! Usually on Black Friday, we don’t do anything special, as the malls usually keep everyone busy, but this year we are having a sale. I think you will want to check the website Wednesday after we close to get all the details. I can tell you that our door buster special will be a free, yes free! Incredible Hulk number two or Marvel Point One number one, while they last.

We are having a contest to name our Zombie. The winner gets a $25.00 gift card and the first volume of the Walking Dead trade paperback. We will pick a winner on Black Friday. Also on Blackest Friday as Clayton calls it, the drawing of CU’s survey winner. If you haven’t filled it out yet, there’s still time. Just go to the link on our website, and fill it out. It’s for a good cause, and you could win $ 50.00.

Also this month, IDW has a “Save My Retailer “ contest at contests@IDWpublishing.com where you and Time Warp can be featured in a Star Trek comic. If you are not reading the newest Star Trek series, you’re missing a really good book. This contest closes on December 7th, and I’d really consider it a favor if you’d do this !

We are closed on Thanksgiving day, but will be open bright and early on Friday so you can take advantage of the sale. We will have comics as usual this Wednesday  and will be open regular hours. Next week, there is a chance our shipment might be a day late, please check our site to be sure.

Have a great holiday everyone ! We appreciate your business!

Thanks for reading,

Wayne

Top Twenty For January 2012

DC’s # 5 ‘s  The DC Comics new 52 continue to surprise me. DC has a lot of huge hits on its hands. The cream is starting to rise to the top. The # 1’s were an apparition, as many people just wanted the # 1’s and haven’t come back. On the plus side, a lot of high school and college kids are just getting in to the hobby and really enjoying it. It makes my job a lot more fun when you all are enjoying this as much as I am. This phenonemon has really re-energized me.Our three best selling titles are Justice League, Action and Batman. They’re all awesome. I also like All Star Western, Batgirl / Woman, Swamp Thing and Animal Man and many more. In fact there are probably only about ten I don’t read or enjoy.

DC Chess pieces ! Eaglemoss, who make the super popular lead figures are making beautiful pieces that really are well done and hand painted by elves and faeries.First up – Batman, Robin, Joker and Commissioner Gordon. $ 16.00 each

Batman Arkham Asylum Play Arts – Kai – Action Figures $ 59.99 each.

Batman or Joker. Really nice looking figures.

Lobster Johnson : The Burning Hand # 1-5 . Lobster tastes great , this Hellboy tie -in series will be very appetising. This will sell as well as Hellboy.

Regular cover and Mignola variant for the  first spectacular issue

Walking Dead vol 15 trade paperback. This will be out by Christmas. This series is our most popular trade series here at the store, closely followed by Fables.

Scarlet Spider # 1 Kaine, Peter Parker’s clone is the star here. I’m one of the few people I know who originally enjoyed Ben Reilly in the original Spider clone saga, but I really think I’ll like this series. I think it will be a “sleeper “

Defenders # 1 Dr. Strange, She Hulk, Iron Fist , Silver Surfer and others return this December in a new series. Hope it lasts longer than Alpha Flight. Avengers / X – Sanction # 1 Loeb and McGinness bring Cable back to life , and he wants to annihilate them. That’s even worse than killing them evidently.

Avengers Annual # 1 Part one of this story was in New Avengers Annual # 1, published a few months ago. Really Marvel, really ? The Avengers vs. Simon Williams, aka Wonder Man.

Fatale # 1 Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips of Criminal fame bring a horror / noir title to Image Comics. Personally, this is the title I’m most looking forward to this month.

Whispers # 1 This is completely  done by a Luna Brother – Joshua. This is a supernatural thriller about  a guy who can leave his body and enter the “astral” plane. His intentions are not honorable , unlike his kindred spirit Stephen Strange.

Lord Of The Jungle # 1 Tarzan finally returns to comics. Should be faithful to the Burroughs mythos.

Here are a few of the different covers to look forward to. Issue number one as well as two and three, variants for all issues will be available as well

Ferals # 1 New Avatar series written by David Lapham. Lapham says he’s been really looking forward to this series for a long time. It’s about werewolves of course.Lone Ranger # 1-6 Oh yeah, Tonto’s here too.  Kirby Genesis : Dragonsbane # 1 This is really Thor of course, but he’s not called that . Whatever.

Peanuts # 1 A great classic for all ages.We got # 0 earlier this month and amazingly it sold poorly despite having some new art , or maybe because of that. Don’t know. Sunday Funnies # 1- 32 Pages of great Sunday Comics reprinted from 1890 to 1950. Full color in a 22” x 16 “ format for $ 10.00

Bone : Quest For Spark Book 2 NOVEL softcover $ 10.00 Jeff Smith illustrations Infestation 2 # 1 Even the Teenage Mutant Turtles are involved. If you’re interested in this series, please sign up, as the first series sold poorly.Prophet # 21 Continues the series Image started years ago. SPlatt was made famous with his great art back then, but he’s not involved with this series. I wonder what ever happened to that artist?
